The growing number of older people with cognitive impairment and dementia in the UK is an issue of major significance for the NHS, local authorities and care providers. According to Age UK, some 800,000 people already suffer from severe cognitive decline, and this figure is predicted to double in the next 20 years.
Through developing knowledge in the new disciplines of cognitive ageing and cognitive epidemiology, CCACE generates innovation with the potential to become products with societal and commercial value. We have a responsibility to our funders and other stakeholders to seek opportunities to exploit this new knowledge, for example through commercialisation or by offering relevant open source software.
